LIGHTRIM
LighTrim is a deeptech project enabling high-yield, large-scale manufacturing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). It addresses high variability in PIC manufacturing with a wafer-scale solution that precisely tunes the properties of photonic devices at the end of the production cycle. LighTrim delivers reproducible performance across large volumes of chips, reducing waste and costs and accelerating industrial adoption in AI, quantum computing and industrial sensing. This tuning solution is compatible with existing photonic material platforms, including silicon, SiN and III-V semiconductors. The team is currently demonstrating the impact of PIC optimisation across several use cases through pilot projects. Contact them to discuss improving the yield or performance of your photonic platform.

ICON PHOTONICS
The project: a CNRS spin-off developing high-density fibre-to-chip optical connectivity to overcome data-transfer bottlenecks in high-performance computing infrastructure. Technology: wafer-level manufacturing of polymer micro-optics and the design of a passive, detachable optical connector. This approach replaces glued fibres (“pigtails”) with a reliable, scalable plug-and-play solution. Applications: data communications and telecoms requiring massive bandwidth, including hyperscale data centres and AI clusters; quantum computing.

MOON PHOTONICS
The project: next-generation SWIR infrared photodetectors with extremely high sensitivity (“low photon number detection”), enabling system integrators to achieve ultimate performance with simplified integration. Technology: HgCdTe (mercury cadmium telluride) avalanche photodiodes developed at CEA-Leti over many years. The technology offers high gain (M = 100–1000) with almost no amplification noise, operating both at room temperature (300 K) and under cryogenic conditions (80 K). Applications: long-range LiDAR for defence, topography and gas detection; free-space optical communications for satellite constellations; quantum photonics, including quantum computing and quantum key distribution; biomedical analysis of blood.

FLATLIGHT
The project: an ultrafast optical switching solution (“Light Unlocked”) designed to eliminate energy-intensive optoelectronic conversions in data centres as AI data traffic grows. Technology: a NanoSLM spatial light modulator based on active metasurfaces. It redirects light without moving parts, with a response time of 1 µs (compared with over 10 ms for current technologies) and energy efficiency 50 times higher than copper. Applications: optical circuit switching for hyperscale data centres, dynamically reconfiguring connections between servers and GPUs to reduce latency and network energy consumption by 40%.

SYNTHWAVE LASERS
The project: design and manufacture of agile industrial fibre lasers that generate custom pulse trains through a modular architecture resulting from ten years of research at LP2N. Technology: electro-optic modulation generates pulses, including GHz burst regimes, and enables software control of beam shape and frequency. Applications: micro-precision machining with cold ablation and no thermal effects through GHz operation; quantum technologies, including atom cooling and photo-injection; scientific research; inertial confinement fusion; broad secondary markets.

VIEWS TECHNOLOGY
The project: Views aims to make enhanced infrared vision the new standard for autonomous systems. Technology: quantum-dot-based infrared sensors that overcome the spectral limit of current sensors (1.7 µm), using a manufacturing process suitable for mass production. This opens consumer markets beyond the reach of traditional detectors. Applications: onboard vision for drones and autonomous operation in fog or smoke; industrial quality control through spectroscopy, including waste sorting, food processing and distinguishing colourless liquids; automotive vision; consumer electronics with integrated SWIR cameras.

HYPRVIEW
The project: HyprView develops a new class of predictive biomarkers for oncology. Its next-generation digital pathology technology combines photonic data with AI analysis to predict treatment response. Technology: a multimodal photonic imaging platform captures endogenous tissue signatures without labelling. By combining advanced optics and deep learning, HyprView decodes the tumour microenvironment and turns photonic information into a decision-support tool for oncologists. Applications: prognostic and predictive tests to tailor care for each patient with cancer.

XIMED
The project: XIMED is a French deeptech medtech startup improving breast cancer diagnosis through medical imaging. Its central goal is to reduce unnecessary biopsies, often performed as a precaution when conventional imaging cannot clearly distinguish benign from malignant lesions. Technology: innovative phase-contrast X-ray imaging, distinct from conventional absorption-based X-rays. It improves differentiation of soft tissues, particularly breast microcalcifications, which are often difficult to interpret using current systems. Applications: XIMED develops two complementary products. BrightX images surgical specimens, for example after a lumpectomy, to check tumour margins in the operating theatre and help surgeons make real-time decisions and reduce repeat surgery. PhoeniX is a longer-term project to integrate the technology into a mammography system for direct use during screening or diagnosis.

DOORS PHOTONICS
The project: founded in 2024, Doors Photonics designs and manufactures ultra-low-noise laser arrays for applications requiring exceptional spectral, phase and frequency stability. Technology: based on the innovative HyGlass™ platform in glass photonics and laser engineering, the company develops compact, robust and reproducible finished laser products for direct integration into complex systems. Applications: high-value markets including quantum technologies, high-sensitivity fibre-optic sensors and LiDAR for precision measurement and perception, where laser noise control is essential to performance and differentiation.

LUXODERM
The project: Luxoderm is a French medtech startup developing WoundLight, a non-invasive medical device to accelerate healing of chronic wounds, including venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers and pressure sores. Addressing an estimated $22 billion global market and 30 million patients, it targets market entry from 2030 through CE marking, followed by FDA and PMDA approvals, and $80 million in revenue by 2034. Technology: specific spectra unavailable with current solutions modulate key wound-healing mechanisms through three biological pathways: inflammation reduction, cell proliferation and fibroblast activation. Sessions last only three minutes, without contact or identified risk. Applications: WoundLight is designed for hospitals and specialist clinics treating chronic wounds resistant to conventional care. It reduces healing time from 220 to 132 days and recurrence from 30% to 5%, potentially generating $22 billion in additional revenue for US hospitals. The roadmap includes diabetic ulcers in 2032 and post-operative cosmetic surgery in 2034.

The project: Iris Lab develops wireless laser power transmission for robots and drones, including in-flight charging and a range of 1 km. Technology: long-distance wireless power transmission by laser. The team works with IPVF, whose innovative photovoltaic receiver enables a breakthrough, affordable product. A laser transmitter tracks the moving robot and directs a laser at an onboard photovoltaic receiver, which converts it into electricity to power the robot. Benefits: 100% utilisation, 70% less battery capacity, a photovoltaic receiver costing 100 times less, long-distance wireless power (1 km) and high power (1 kW). Applications: in-box charging, charging during hovering and dynamic flight; surveillance, inspection and delivery drones; mobile robotics.
