LIGHTRIM
The LighTrim project is a deep tech initiative enabling high-yield, large-scale manufacturing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). It addresses the problem of high variability during the PIC manufacturing process by offering a wafer-scale solution that precisely tunes the properties of photonic devices at the end of the cycle. LighTrim thus ensures reproducible performance for large chip volumes, reducing waste and costs, and accelerating the industrial adoption of PICs in fields such as AI, quantum computing, and industrial detectors. This tuning solution is compatible with existing photonic material platforms, such as silicon, SiN, and III-V semiconductors. The team is currently working to demonstrate the impact of optimizing photonic integrated circuits (PICs) across several use cases through pilot projects. ICON PHOTONICS

The Project: A CNRS spin-off developing high-density “fiber-to-chip” optical connectivity solutions to address data-transfer bottlenecks in high-performance computing infrastructures. Technology: Wafer-level fabrication of polymer micro-optics and development of a passive, detachable optical connector. This approach replaces bonded fibers (“pigtails”) with a reliable, scalable, plug-and-play solution. Use Cases: Data communications and telecommunications—including hyperscale data centers and AI clusters—requiring massive bandwidth, as well as quantum computing.

MOON PHOTONICS
The Project: Development of next-generation short-wave infrared (SWIR) photodetectors offering extremely high sensitivity for low-photon-number detection. These detectors enable system integrators to achieve optimal performance while simplifying integration. Technology: HgCdTe (mercury cadmium telluride) avalanche photodiodes (APDs) developed at CEA-Leti. This mature, long-developed technology provides high gain (M = 100–1,000) with virtually no excess noise and operates both at room temperature (300 K) and under cryogenic conditions (80 K). Use Cases: Long-range LiDAR for defense, topography and gas detection; free-space optical communications (FSO) for satellite constellations; quantum photonics applications, including quantum computing and quantum key distribution; and biomedical analysis, particularly blood analysis.
FLATLIGHT
The Project: An ultra-fast optical switching solution (“Light Unlocked”) designed to eliminate energy-intensive optical-to-electrical conversions in data centers and address the rapid growth of AI-driven data traffic. Technology: A NanoSLM (Spatial Light Modulator) based on active metasurfaces. It enables solid-state beam steering without moving parts, with a response time of 1 µs—compared with more than 10 ms for current technologies—and 50 times greater energy efficiency than copper-based solutions. Use Cases: Optical Circuit Switching (OCS) for hyperscale data centers, enabling the dynamic reconfiguration of connections between servers and GPUs to reduce latency and network power consumption by 40%.

SYNTHWAVE LASERS
The Project: Design and manufacturing of agile industrial fiber lasers capable of generating customized pulse trains through a modular architecture based on ten years of research at LP2N. Technology: Pulse generation using electro-optic modulation, enabling GHz burst-mode operation and software-controlled adjustment of the beam’s shape and frequency. Use Cases: Precision micromachining, including cold ablation without thermal damage using GHz burst mode; quantum technologies, such as atom cooling and photo-injection; scientific research; and inertial confinement fusion, with significant opportunities across a wide range of secondary markets.

VIEWS TECHNOLOGY
The project: Views aims to make infrared augmented vision the new standard for autonomous systems. Technology: Develops infrared sensors based on Quantum Dots, overcoming the spectral limitation of current sensors (1.7 µm) while offering a mass-production manufacturing process. This opens up consumer markets inaccessible to traditional detectors. Use cases: Embedded vision sensors (drones, autonomous vision through fog/smoke), industrial quality control (spectrometry: waste sorting, food processing, differentiation of colorless liquids), automotive (autonomous vision through fog/smoke), and consumer electronics (integrated SWIR camera).

HYPRVIEW
The Project: HyprView is developing a new class of predictive biomarkers in oncology. Its next-generation digital pathology technology combines photonics-derived data with AI-powered analysis to predict treatment response. Technology: A multimodal photonic imaging platform that captures endogenous tissue signatures without the need for labeling (“label-free”). By combining advanced optics with deep learning, HyprView decodes the complexity of the tumor microenvironment and transforms photonic data into a clinical decision-support tool for oncologists. Use Cases: Prognostic and predictive testing to personalize treatment strategies for each cancer patient.
XIMED
The Project: XIMED is a French deeptech MedTech startup developing solutions to improve breast cancer diagnosis through medical imaging. Its primary objective is to reduce unnecessary biopsies, which are often performed as a precaution when conventional imaging cannot clearly distinguish between benign and malignant lesions. Technology: XIMED is developing an innovative phase-contrast X-ray imaging technology. Unlike conventional X-ray imaging, which relies solely on absorption, this technology enables better differentiation of soft tissues, particularly breast microcalcifications, which are often difficult to interpret using current systems. Use Cases: XIMED is developing two complementary products for two main applications: BrightX: A surgical specimen radiography system used in the operating room, particularly following a lumpectomy, to assess tumor margins. It helps surgeons make real-time decisions and reduces the need for repeat surgery. PhoeniX: A longer-term project aimed at integrating the technology into a mammography system for direct use with patients during breast cancer screening or diagnosis.

The Project: Founded in 2024, Doors Photonics is a deep tech startup specializing in the design and manufacturing of ultra-low-noise laser arrays for applications requiring exceptional spectral, phase, and frequency stability. The Technology: Leveraging the innovative HyGlass™ technology in glass photonics and laser engineering, the company develops compact, robust, and reproducible laser products that can be directly integrated into complex systems. Use Cases: Doors Photonics primarily targets high-value markets such as quantum technologies, high-sensitivity fiber optic sensors, and LiDAR for precision measurement and perception, where laser noise control is a key factor in performance and differentiation.
LUXODERM
The Project: Luxoderm is a French MedTech startup developing WoundLight, a non-invasive medical device designed to accelerate the healing of chronic wounds, including venous and diabetic ulcers and pressure sores. With an estimated global market of $22 billion and 30 million patients affected, the startup is targeting market launch by 2030, initially through CE marking, followed by FDA and PMDA approvals. Luxoderm aims to generate $80 million in revenue by 2034. Technology: WoundLight uses specific light spectra that cannot be delivered by existing solutions to modulate key wound-healing mechanisms. The technology acts on three major biological pathways: reducing inflammation, stimulating cell proliferation and activating fibroblasts. Each treatment session lasts only three minutes and is contact-free, with no identified risks. Use Cases: WoundLight is designed for use in hospitals and specialist clinics to treat chronic wounds that do not respond to conventional care. It is intended to reduce healing time from 220 to 132 days and recurrence rates from 30% to 5%, potentially generating an additional $22 billion in revenue for US hospitals. The development roadmap includes expansion into diabetic ulcer treatment in 2032, followed by postoperative aesthetic surgery applications in 2034.

The Project: Iris Lab develops wireless laser power transmission technologies to power robots and drones, with applications such as in-flight charging and a range of 1 km. The Technology: We are developing a long-distance wireless laser power transmission technology. We are working with IPVF, which is developing an innovative photovoltaic receiver that we use to create a revolutionary and affordable product. Our system consists of a laser transmitter that tracks the robot during its movement and points a laser at an onboard photovoltaic receiver, which converts the energy into electricity to power the robot. Advantages: 100% utilization rate, 70% battery savings, 100x cheaper PV receiver, long-distance (1 km) and high-power (1 kW) wireless power supply.
